KS1 grammar worksheet that helps Year 1 and Year 2 children turn an adjective into its comparative and superlative form by adding er or est.

A short reminder explains that comparative and superlative adjectives describe how nouns compare, with a worked example using small, smaller and smallest (Jay’s house is small, Dina’s house is smaller, my house is the smallest). Children then add er and est to nine root adjectives (sad, happy, near, wet, thin, fat, cold, hot and long), with big given as a second worked example showing bigger and biggest. The page closes with three fill-in sentences using thin, long and cold, plus space to write a comparative or superlative sentence of their own.

Useful for KS1 SATs revision, classroom intervention or homework on adjective endings. Pair this with our grammar worksheets for KS1 ages 5 to 7 for related work. Printable PDF, A4, downloads instantly after purchase.
