Example games include:

  • Start with 10 apples on the tree each time. Throw the dice. Take away the right number of apples. You can change the number of apples you start with.
  • Roll both dice, use the numbers on the dice to write a take away number sentence e.g. 6 – 4 = ___. Remember to write the big number first. Put the 6 apples on the tree and take away 4. How many are left? Roll both dice again and write another take away number sentence.
  • How many more? Choose a target number e.g. 10. Throw the dice. Put the right number of apples on the tree. How many more apples do you need to make 10?
