KS2 division worksheet that introduces Year 3 and Year 4 children to division as repeated taking away, using a number line for support.
A worked example shows that 8 divided by 2 means asking how many times 2 can be taken away from 8, with arrows hopping back along a number line in four jumps of two to land on zero. Children then work through five division sums of their own (6 divided by 2, 12 divided by 3, 10 divided by 5, 10 divided by 2 and 12 divided by 4), with the number line for each already printed on the page so they can show every hop. The number-line method links division to the inverse of multiplication, which is the next step in the curriculum.
Useful for homework after an introductory division lesson or for one-to-one intervention. See related division work in our division worksheets for KS2 ages 7 to 9. Printable PDF, A4, downloads instantly after purchase.
