KS1 multiplication worksheet that teaches Year 1 and Year 2 children how a rectangular array shows both a multiplication and a repeated addition.
A short rule shows that an array of dots in rows and columns can be written as a times tables sum or as a repeated addition, so an array of 2 by 3 dots becomes both 2 times 3 and 2 plus 2 plus 2. Children then look at nine arrays on the page and write both the multiplication and the repeated addition sum for each one. The first is worked through as 4 times 2 paired with 4 plus 4, then children complete the remaining eight.
