KS2 reading and writing worksheet that helps Year 3 and Year 4 children tell the difference between a myth and a legend, using eight famous story outlines.
A short rule explains that myths are usually made-up stories about heroes, gods or monsters (Greek Gods, King Midas, Theseus and the Minotaur and Medusa), while legends can be based on a real event passed down over time and are usually about a hero (Robin Hood and King Arthur). Children then read eight story outlines (including Zeus, King Midas, Big Foot, Medusa, Robin Hood, the Griffin, the Trojan Horse and the Sword in the Stone) and complete a table marking each one as a myth or a legend, explaining why and noting whether they have heard it before.
