KS2 fractions worksheet that helps Year 3 and Year 4 children recognise that some fractions look different but cover the same area.
A short rule and four worked equivalence chains introduce the idea (1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8 = 8/16, 3/4 = 6/8 = 12/16, 1/3 = 2/6 = 3/9, 2/3 = 4/6 = 6/9 and 1/5 = 2/10 = 3/15). Children then choose a pair of equivalent fractions, write them down and colour in matching shape pairs to show that the two fractions cover the same area. The first row (3/4 = 6/8) is worked. To finish, they draw their own shape pair to prove another equivalence.
