A reference table at the top sets out the values of I, V, X, L, C, D and M, plus the four-letter pairs IV, IX, XL, XC, CD and CM. A reminder note explains the addition rule with the example XXX equals thirty and CDXLI equals 441. Children then complete two tables. The first gives seven Roman numerals to convert to numbers, including LXXXIX, CCVII, DX, DCXX, M, DCCLII and CCLXXXIII.
