KS1 multiplication worksheet that helps Year 1 and Year 2 children see how times tables sums can be written as repeated addition.
A short rule shows that multiplication is repeated counting of equal-sized groups, so 2 times 4 equals 8 because you can also write it as 2 plus 2 plus 2 plus 2. Children then look at six picture groups and write both the multiplication and the repeated addition sum for each. The first two are worked through as examples (2 times 4 paired with 2 plus 2 plus 2 plus 2, and 3 times 2 paired with 3 plus 3) and the last prompt asks them to draw their own picture group.
