KS2 non-fiction writing worksheet that teaches Year 3 and Year 4 children to spot the difference between a good report sentence and a bad one.
The page opens by explaining what a report is, then contrasts a bad sentence (opinion-led, about polar bears being cute) with a good sentence (factual, about polar bears having thick fur for warmth). Children give two reasons why the first is weak. They then read ten sentences about fish and dogs, underlining the ones that work as report sentences. To finish, they write their own bad and good report sentence about a mouse and about a frog, applying the same test to their own writing.
