KS2 spelling worksheet that helps Year 5 and Year 6 children choose between the two tricky suffixes ance and ence when writing words like difference, evidence and presence.

A short rule explains that there is no firm rule for choosing between ance and ence, so the words need to be learned. In task one, children underline the correct spelling of ten word pairs (difference, evidence, presence, confidence, circumference, dependence, ignorance, influence, disappearance and performance), then write each correct spelling out twice using neat joined handwriting. In task two, they find the root word for grievance, resemblance, inheritance and occurrence, with grieve worked as the example.
