KS2 spelling worksheet that helps Year 5 and Year 6 children turn nouns and adjectives into verbs by adding one of the three suffixes ise, ify or ate.
A short rule explains that ise, ify and ate can change some nouns and adjectives into verbs. In task one, children take six root words (real, elastic, consider, pollen, familiar and note) and try adding each suffix in turn, then cross out the combinations that are not real words (real and realise is the worked example; realify and realate are not words). They may use a dictionary. In task two, they add the correct suffix to nine more root words (horrid, apology, vaccine, advice, improve, fossil, intense, medicine and accessory), sometimes shortening the root first. They finish by listing any unfamiliar words to look up.
