Children at school will need to learn the alphabet. They will learn to name the letters, sound out the letters and write the letters.
During the early years, children are encouraged to have a go at writing. For a child, this can be a difficult skill to master. In order to write, children need to be able to know what they want to write, the letters within that word, the sound each letter makes, the order the letters go in and how to form each letter. For a young child, this is a lot of things to do in one go.
Using an alphabet mat can help children with the process of writing words. It acts as an aide memoire, allowing children to write words quicker.
Knowing the alphabet by heart, will also help with dictionary skills, learnt at a later stage of education.
The alphabet mat also helps children associate a picture with the letter. This will also help with the writing of words.
