KS2 grammar and punctuation worksheet that helps Year 5 and Year 6 children use hyphens in three common ways: to join compound adjectives, to write numbers between 21 and 99 and with some prefixes.

A short rule lists each use with examples (mild-mannered, twenty-four and self-service). In task one, children complete five sentences using compound adjectives from a bank that includes red-faced, light-fingered, money-making, clean-shaven and sweet-smelling. In task two, they write a sentence of their own for each of four more compound adjectives: blue-eyed, cold-hearted, tight-fisted and short-tempered. A closing task asks them to write a sentence describing how many people like cake compared to biscuits, using hyphenated numbers.
