KS2 grammar worksheet that helps Year 3 and Year 4 children extend short sentences using verbs, adjectives, adverbs and a star-rated bank of connectives.

A short reminder explains that verbs are doing words, adjectives describe nouns and adverbs describe verbs. A three-star connective bank groups joiners by difficulty: one-star (but, because and and), two-star (until, so, when, whilst, if, therefore and also) and three-star (although, furthermore, however and nevertheless). Children complete ten sentence starters with their own ideas, choosing different connectives each time. The first is worked through as an example about brave spacemen on an alien planet. To finish, they underline the nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs they have used, colour-coding each.
